Over the Summer of 2022, Drawing Board Productions CIC created a Lion Art Sculpture Trail across Reddish (SK5) helping to highlight local artists and increase footfall into and around local shops/venues.
Lion sculptures were organised through Wild in Art and Stockport-based artists and schools decorated the lions to reflect the local area.
The 10 lions were then placed in local shops and community spaces to form a Reddish Roaring Trail which was enjoyed by Reddish residents throughout the summer and helped to bring people from other areas into Reddish to see the lions. The trail was also enjoyed by numerous community and support groups from across Stockport who completed the trail as a group activity.
In 2024, we want to build on the impact of the Lion Trail by creating an art sculpture trail for each of the areas covered by a Post newspaper - Heatons & Reddish, Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme & Gatley, Bramhall & Woodford, Didsbury & Burnage, and Chorlton & Whalley Range. Each Post area will have up to 10 animal sculptures with a different animal for each area, creating the Great South Manchester Safari. Residents from across South Manchester will be able to complete the Safari by visiting each area to see the sculptures.
The delivery of this event is very much funding dependent. We need to raise £8,000 per Post area to be able to purchase the sculptures, pay artists and purchase materials.
